Understanding a Horoscope – Part 1

Everybody in the world is aware of horoscopes and many of us pick up a daily newspaper to read theirs. But not everybody really understands astrology and things like horoscopes and how to interpret them properly. In this blog we investigate how to fully understand a horoscope and get the most benefit out of one.

Time of Birth

One of the most critical pieces of information you must have at your fingertips is the time of your birth. Although your parents can be a source for this, most of the time they are guessing. The most accurate way to find out is through hospital records, although astrology can be done without this information it will not be very accurate.

Draw up A Horoscope

This can be really complicated but there is no need to redevelop the wheel, use the internet and browse for Natal charts. These can be found for free and are pretty explanatory how they work.

An Overview of Planetary Patterns

Your chart should look like a giant wheel, which is a representation of the planets in orbit. Study the chart and look where the different planets are, this is the backbone of the chart. The different groupings are important and you have to understand what they mean.

The Elements

Astrology implements many Greek ideologies, and uses the four-classic element of air, earth, fire and water. The Greeks interpreted these as four psychological temperaments that were: melancholic, phlegmatic, choleric and sanguine. What is important in all this is that you have to work out what are your own personal dominant elements. This can be done by looking what signs most of your planets are in. If two elements are shown as the most dominant this will determine your basic temperament, the way you feel about the world.

Zodiac Signs

Your star sign is also important, and certain planets have personal traits. For instance, Venus and Mercury do not play a big part in your private influences, but Uranus and Pluto do. This is where you need to do some homework, and study the relevance of every sign placement in your horoscope.

Sun and Moon Combination

This category is really of the utmost importance, as it is the Sun and the Moon that are the two most defining elements of your personality.

Rising Sign / Ascendant

The actual time when you were born and the particular sign that ascended to the eastern horizon at that moment is termed as the Rising Sign (ascendant). This is a really important part of your horoscope as it defines your external character., the way you interact with the world as a whole. This is why you need to find out the exact time of your birth.

This is the first part of our in-depth study of understanding a horoscope, as you can see with a little bit of patience and the required study, astrology starts to become understandable. For you to fully understand this topic you will find the second part of our blog quite stimulating. We further discuss the Rising Sign and also Aspects and House positions.
